Promoting Investments in Energy Savings Projects in Russia's Regions

Within the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue, the Delegation of the European Commission to Russia and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation are implementing a €3 million project.

The project was officially launched on 12 December, 2008, at 10h00, at the Delegation of the European Commission to Russia (Kadashevskaya Nab., 14/1).

The project will run until December 2010 and will work closely with the administrations of three selected regions: the Sverdlovsk, Rostov and Tver regions. The project focus is to support the Russian Federation’s regional policies aimed at the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the establishment of emissions targets, the achievement of lower energy intensity levels, and the encouragement of energy-efficiency and renewable energy investment projects, which will be, in part, executed under the Joint Implementation (JI) mechanism.

Representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Delegation of the European Commission to the Russian Federation, international organizations and business participated in the launch of the project.
